Apple seems to increasingly want to remove the iPhone dependency on Apple Watch. Now the watchOS 6 update is rumored to be allowing users to update OTA directly and remove the default application on watchOS.
WatchOS 6 update is still released in Beta, so some of these features are not perfect and may change in the future. You just wait until Apple officially releases this watchOS 6 update to all Apple Watch users.
One of the most awaited features is the OTA or Over the Air update directly on Apple Watch. Users do not need the help of the iPhone to update the watchOS process.
It’s just to be able to update directly to Apple Watch with OTA, users still need the help of the iPhone to agree to Terms and Conditions, but the download and install update process will be directed to Apple Watch directly.
Before this, Apple Watch users still had to open the Apple Watch application on the iPhone to check whether there was a new update, and the update process still had to use the help of the iPhone.
If true then Apple Watch will truly be more independent from iPhone dependence. Before this, Apple has officially introduced the WatchOS App Store specifically and can be accessed directly on Apple Watch without further assistance from the iPhone.
